Forum thread: Installing on a Terminal Server

Hi There,

Currently the software is installed locally on an XP machine in the school but this will be replaced with a thin client that can't have software installed - we run a Windows 2008 Terminal Server can the software be installed on there and is there anything we need to be aware off?

Many Thanks
Andy

Many Thanks

Andy,

Installing on a 2008 Terminal server should be fine.
There is no harm in trying - you can have your license activated on both machines (XP and Win 2008). Issues you might come across:
- allowing STEARsoft and port 13031 through any firewall.
- redirecting any alias address you have for the web interface
- any routing of STEARsoft traffic on port 13031 through your network infrastructure if this is relevant. This includes UDP and TCP and broadcast frames (UDP) for discovering the server automatically.

You may find the 'New chool computers' forum post useful if you've not already spotted it.

During the install program there is an option to choose the location for storing data. You could see if this serves your need to the second post. If you need further help, please enlighten my ignorance of what a DC and TS are and what you are referring to as the 'client' in this context.

I hope that helps.

Yours,

Marcus

Hi Marcus,

Thank you Sorry yes the DC is our file server so ideally the data would be placed there, the TS is the 2008 Terminal Server (The Client) I'll have a look at the new school computers post and see how I go,

Many Thanks
Andy

Andy,

I should think you can map a drive letter and refer to that during the install.

I hope it all goes smoothly.

Yours,

Marcus
