How to I add in backdated attendance as I cannot see pupil names, they are not visible when I move along to the day I want to input into?  Is there a way of freezing the list of students so that column doesn't disappear?

Dear Elaine,

Thank you for your post.

On an iPad/iPhone: go to the class attendance sheet. Click Edit in the top right. Tap Add/Remove students. Tap Point in time. Change the date to when you want the register to start from. Press back link in top left. Tap Add Existing Student. Select all students in the class. Tap Save. Use top left buttons to return to attendance sheet.

Or in the web version: go to the attendance sheet for the class. Click Class details tab. At the bottom of the screen are students with their start dates. Click on a start date to change it.

Yours,

Marcus

Thank you for your reply.  When I try to change a start date a message appears as follows:  "The requested change of start date has been prevented because such a change would delete existing attendance data for that student. If you need to change this student's start date you must first of all remove any attendance marks for them prior to the new start date".

All I want to do is to add in attendance marks for the back end of last week.  However, I cannot do this as I cannot see student names as I move along to enter in the columns.

That sounds a little odd. Is this in the web version then? If I was to give you an email address would you be able to send a screen shot?

Ah, I think I now understand. At the top just under the tab options, it says goto register for... Either side of 'this week' are some double arrows. Use these to scroll back a week without having to show a whole term. Does this do it?

It works if I'm inputting in the current week, but I need to go back to last week and it doesn't show me one week it shows me from the start of term?

I'm using the web version.

Thanks for your patience...  Can I just check you're not pressing the go button...  Is the start of term just 2 weeks back and do you have a small screen (eg mobile device). If so go to preferences in the options panel to select how many columns to show. Or do you have a large number of attendance sessions per week?

I'm not pressing the go button.  We only started to use this from beginning of January.  I'm using the web version on a normal PC screen.  We have 7 sessions per day, therefore 35 per week.

Thanks

Thank you again Elaine,

I can see that this is something that could certainly be improved in the software, and I shall put this on the bug list for improvement.

In the mean time, there are 4 work around options (not very pretty, but should work):
1) If you have an iPad (or iPhone or iPod-touch), install the STEARsoft lite App, synchronise with your account and do this on the iPad (which does scroll nicely keeping the student names there). Synchronise again to get your changes back to the web system.
OR
2) Open two windows (not tabs) for the same class attendance sheet. Arrange them so the back window gives the names on the left, and the window in front is enough to the right to see the names behind and is correctly lined up.
OR
3) Use the double left arrow (next to this week), then in the web address bar at the top of the screen, change the date= bit at the end to give an appropriate date to see what you'd like to.
OR
4) Use the preferences screen to pretend you're a mobile device.

My personal preference would be option 1 if available, then option 2 if the screen is big enough you don't have to scroll up and down to see all the students. Otherwise option 3 if you can see how to do it. Failing that, option 4...

Thanks again for this feedback to help improve STEARsoft.

Yours,

Marcus

Thanks Marcus.  I've managed now using option 3 and it seems to work fine. :)

Many thanks for the feedback. It's good to know you're able to move forwards. Sorry it took a while to understand the problem.

Dear Elaine,

Version 6.0.0 of STEARsoft was made available today. This version includes extra little navigation arrows in an attendance sheet to move back and forth just one week (rather than two).

Marcus

Problem: Deleting a pupil from a register but not the central record.

Hi.I have just taken over the role of administrator for the electronic register. No training, just handed a file ...

I have a pupil who started the academic year in one class but has now moved into a different year group. Both the current teacher and the former one can see the pupil's name in their registers.  Could you explain how I delete from one whilst keeping the other and obviously the central record. I can only find information on  "Removing a Pupil who never turned up"

Many thanks for your help. Much appreciated

OK - I think I have sorted it out without blowing up the website or deleting the whole school register, always a bonus.  Onwards and upwards ...

Thx
