Thank you Chris for your interest and suggestion. Although internet interfaces are not so slick, STEARsoft is primarily a whole-school-deployment product where the web interface has huge benefits (You can use PCs, Linux machines, Macs - anything that can run a web-browser, and there are no annoying updates that have to be deployed across the whole school - and you can use any computer on the network, knowing it will just work). We may add an optional native PC application version in the future, but until then, for ease of use, are you aware of all the keyboard shortcuts (described in the 'User Manual' under 'Marking basic attendance') Yours, Marcus. |

You Say It it is primarily a whole-school-deployment product but we use RM in our school so we can easily deploy the same program to all workstations with ease. P.S Do you have a date when the Stearsoft Pro App For iPhone will be released? Thanks Chris |

Dear Chris, Thank you for your further observations. It sounds like you have a good, organised setup for software deployment at your school which negates the benefits I mentioned. Nice :) Not all schools are quite so lucky; particularly where there is a mix of Mac, Windows, iPad and possibly even Linux machines, or where teachers bring their own machines to use at school. These are the sorts of situations where the web-interface has some of the advantages I mention - but I agree, this sounds like it doesn't apply to you. The STEARsoft App is probably mis-named as being 'Lite'. The intended 'Pro' version will just add the ability to add classes, students and sessions to save having to do this using a computer and synchronise across. Ironically, the 'Pro' version would suit 'Lite' usage (not having to sync any data) and the 'Lite' version, suit more Professional usage where data is already available and makes sense to sync from a computer. We may therefore move to having just a 'STEARsoft' App (No Lite or Pro) with 'in-app-purchase' options to add classes etc. (so paying via Apple rather than for a PC STEARsoft license). We don't yet have a date for such a product release, although we hope it will be in 2010. Thank you again for your continued interest and comments. Yours, Marcus. |
