How can I stop this from scrolling across the screen? We have quite a few of them a day... I would like them to remain static so that they can be more easily read? Thank you.

Dear Andrew,
Thank you for your post. To make announcements static:
1) get to the preferences screen (either by clicking on the text of an announcement banner, or by clicking 'Edit Preferences' in the left hand Options panel on the main screen) 2) At the bottom of the preferences page, set the 'Announcement Banners' preference to 'static' by clicking on the selection circle next to this option. 3) Click 'Save preferences' at the bottom
That should be it :) If there are any difficulties or further questions, please just post back here.
Yours, Marcus. STEARsoft |

Dear Marcus,
Thank you, this is extremely helpful. I assume that it can only be applied by the administrator?

Dear Andrew,
It is an individual setting that each teacher can choose to suit their own preference, so it is in the teacher's preferences screen not the administrator's.
So no it doesn't need to be done by an administrator and in fact must be done by the teacher who wants the change.
The preference only affects the specific teacher account. Each teacher can have their own preference.

Ahhhh! Thank you Marcus....final question if I want to make the text smaller on the announcements do I simply select preferences and then the advanced radio button and replace the words "big" with the words "small"? Thank you. Andrew |
Marcus Butler (STEARsoft) 31 October 2012 08:22 |
Dear Andrew,
The advanced bits are HTML tags; one set of tags before the text and one set after, so the second set of tags must match the first set, but be end tags.
The 'big' tags each make the text size one step larger than normal. The 'B' tag makes the text bold. I would suggest just removing some (or all) or the big tags, being careful to delete the angle brackets correctly and to delete as many matching tags as starting tags. Changing them to 'small' would make the text prabably far too small.
You won't do much harm experimenting. You can always select 'static' again to restore the tags back to a working state if you break it!

Dear Marcus So far so good except seem to be limited to 36 children per class ! Probably me is there a way to have say 45 per class
We are a day nursery and use the normal school registrars we have 140 children on the books of which some only attend 1 day in the week, whist a class does not go over 24 on any one day there maybe 40 plus in the group total
Just wondering if the limit can be increased to show all children in each of the 4 groups so they can be on the Registar but may not be in all days
Or is there a work around or am I just missing a setting

Dear Chris,
Hmmmm. Yes, there is a limit. From memory, the limit is in synchronising with mobile devices and is a memory/speed issue where I had to balance things and draw a line somewhere. Increasing the limit, whilst theoretically possible, is not really a road I want to go down as it would not be trivial and impact this balance. I will have a more detailed look though in case there's an easy solution, but assume not unless I post back. This may not be the best solution anyway...
To try and help within the existing limits of STEARsoft... A student can be a member of more than one class, so you could have a Monday class, a Tuesday class etc and add students accordingly. For marking attendance, you'll have a list of who you're expecting. For reporting, if you have a school license (there's a demo license you can trial), totals in the school wide section pull together attendance data from more than one class for each student (the classes just need to be flagged as Priority). Additionally you can view attendance for a single student across all their classes.
If this sounds like it might fit your needs, I can elaborate further and arrange for a more extensive trial of the school license; just let me know.
Yours,
Marcus |

Hi Marcus
Thank you for the very very quick reply and had realised that it may work as you have suggested Mon Tues etc getting the head around the sessions is fun but getting there.
Will get back to you on the school licence as the registrars may just be enough but thank you for the offer and again the speed on support

Dear Chris,
Thanks for the reply. I'm not always that quick... I hope you get to a good working solution, but please do post back if I can be of help.
Yours,

Reviewing this thread... When used with the new STEARsoft Cloud Server, the class size limit can now be increased beyond 36. In the (paid for) full iPhone App go to 'Advanced Setup'.
Also in the Cloud Server web interface, there's an option in the 'Class details' tab for an attendance sheet titled 'Part-time students'. This allows part-time students not in on the current day to be hidden. |
