Forum thread: Cover registrations
Marcus Butler (STEARsoft) 19 June 2012 19:33 |
It has been asked how a different person would mark attendance in a school if using an iPad and covering someone elses registration group. In particular can it be done with the STEARsoft iPhone App? |

The short answer is that you do it using Safari, but permissions need to be set correctly...
Because STEARsoft is teacher centric in its data (for faster synchronising, faster App loading and running and reduced risks regarding data on mobile devices), the STEARsoft iPhone/iPad App is not able to show a different teacher's class, or take the attendance for that class, so cover registration cannot be done using the App.
However, by using Safari (the web browser) on your iPhone/iPad/iPod, provided you have a live WiFi connection, you can use the web interface of STEARsoft to access attendance data for other classes. You do this from the 'Other School Data' - 'Attendance' page. In order to mark attendance for a cover registration you will need the permissions to be set up in one of the following 4 ways: - Be made a Power teacher, so you can edit all registers. - Change the write permission for the class in question to let any teacher edit the data - Specifically change the write permission on that class to explicitly give you write permission - Borrow the login of the teacher you're covering; could be useful if a temporary teacher was covering paternity leave for example. You should of course reset the password.
In a practical sense you will need a paper method of registration for power or network failures. A single A4 class list sheet with a blank grid for each class is all you need. You could use this same paper method for the occasions when a registration needs to be covered. The office would then transfer the information to STEARsoft. This is most likely the easiest and most practical solution for any external cover teachers, but is also a fail safe and probably quicker method for one-off cover registrations done internally. |
