Forum thread: Problems with saving

Hi,

We are using the free trial and are having problems with saving. When a session is filled out, we click the 'save button', but they do not 'un-highlight' to confirm the data has been saved. When I navigate away from the page and come back to it, the data for the whole day is lost. Any suggestions?

Thanks

Dear Hannah,

Thank you for your post.

As a first check, have you been back to the screen since then to check the data?  What can be confusing (which has always been the explanation for anything like this in the past) is that if you use your browser 'BACK' button to return to the page after navigating away, your browser displays a 'cached' old version of the screen (with none of the changes you made).  In this case, by pressing your Browser refresh button, your browser will then load the most recent information and show you the data that has been saved to the server.

If this isn't the case and it really is failing to save, I would like to hear more as this isn't a problem we know about.  First of all, while the 'save-buttons' being disabled is an indication of data being saved, the status colour rectangle at the top of the screen is the more reliable indicator.  It turns red when you make changes, on clicking save it goes yellow and then turns green when the data is successfully saved.  This is normally instant, but if the server is busy it can take a little longer.

If there are problems, it is possible that a javascript error is occuring. In this case, if you show the status bar of your browser, an exclamation mark appears at the bottom-left of the screen when there's a javascript error.  Clicking (or double-clicking) on this brings up the details of any error.  If you have such an error, it would be helpful if you could let us know the message.

Finally, some web-browsers behave differently, so it would be useful to know which web-browser you are using (eg internet explorer or safari etc) and what version it is.  Also, if you're not using a PC it would be useful to know what platform you are browsing from (eg Linux, Mac, iPad).

Many thanks,

Yours,

Marcus

Hi Hannah,

Having just done a little experiment, The 'un-highlighting' of the Save buttons works for me in Internet Explorer and Firefox, but Safari and Google Chrome don't respond (once enabled, the save buttons stay active).  However, in all browsers the colour indicator at the top goes green to show the data has been saved, and on checking, the data has indeed saved.  So as said above, the coloured status rectangle is the reliable indicator - and be aware that if you use the 'Back' button, you may will need to do a refresh to see recent changes.

Yours,

Marcus

Thanks, it seems to have corrected itself this morning. We do use Internet Explorer. Perhaps it was a problem with the PC, rather than the software.

Hi Marus, I use a ipad to access your fine program. I want to add 100 names to a class as it is a judo club and we all train together. At the moment I can only add around 40.  I am happy to pay if I can get them all on the same register. Please could you advise me. Keep up the great work.

Dear Dave, thank you for your post and for your kind words. Unfortunately, each class is limited to 36 students on the iPad. I do you have in mind to do an update to allow larger classes, but that isn't likely to be for a while. The best I can suggest is to split your students into three groups and have three separate classes in STEARsoft. If you have three leaders, each with their own iPad or iPhone, a PC and a WiFi network you could pull all the information together in a clever way...
Yours,
Marcus
